Description:

Excellent Teen Mummy Bogus Day Off is a multiplayer mod in Unreal Tournament 2004 set in an Ancient-Egypt-meets-80's-punk world.

We put a special twist on the mechanics of freeze tag: in the center of each map is a scarab button that will kill anyone who is frozen. Teams earn points for the number of people they kill; conversely, they lose points for killing their own. Not only was killing masses of people in one swoop entertaining, it also encouraged coordination and team work within teams.

This was a fun two-week project with a fun theme; it is one of my favorite projects at the Guildhall. Coming up with a solid mechanic to set our mod apart was a challenge, especially since we didn't have much time to develop the mod. I ran the brainstorming session to come up with the idea. I knew we had a great idea when our group unanimously supported it.

Role(s): Producer and Level Designer

My Contributions:
  • Scheduled and managed a team of 13 people from all disciplines.
  • Lead design discussion on the game's two mechanics: 'freeze' tag weapons and a kill switch.
  • Lead level design discussions and brainstorming
  • Designed and built the indoor level.
  • Textured indoor level.
  • Arranged static meshes and decals for indoor and outdoor levels.
  • Modeled and textured lo-poly objects: egyptian statue, palm tree, pillar, and kill switch.
  • Presented the project at milestones using MS PowerPoint.

  • Pro-forma financials [xls] - back-of-the-envelope financial analysis for a greenlight process simulation. Analysis was completed as though ETMBDO was a full-scale PC game looking for $5M in funding. The actual development schedule of 2 weeks was treated as 2 years for this exercise.
